Bryan Slaton Resigns As US Representative

Bryan Slaton, the Republican state representative from Texas, has announced that he will resign from his position as the U.S. Representative for Texas’s 1st Congressional District. Slaton's resignation was made effective on February 26th, 2021.

In a statement released on February 26th, Slaton said that he had "decided to pursue other opportunities and will be resigning my seat in the U.S. House of Representatives effective immediately." He added that he had "greatly enjoyed [his] time in office and [was] proud of [his] accomplishments."

Slaton was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2018 and was reelected in 2020. Over the past two years, he has been a vocal advocate of conservative issues, such as gun rights, religious freedom, and pro-life policies. He was a vocal critic of the Biden Administration's immigration policies and supported former President Donald Trump's efforts to build a wall along the US-Mexico border.

Slaton's resignation has left the 1st Congressional District in Texas without a representative. Governor Greg Abbott has yet to call for a special election to fill the seat.
